Hurwitz Mintz Is Closing: Where to Shop for Furniture Near Metairie and New Orleans

After 102 years, Hurwitz Mintz is closing its Metairie showroom. For generations of Greater New Orleans families, it was the place you went when you needed a sofa, a dining table or a bedroom set. As a family-owned furniture store ourselves, we know what it takes to stay open that long, and we're sorry to see them go.

If you're one of the many people now wondering where to shop for furniture near Metairie or New Orleans, here's some honest advice, plus a little about who we are.

Before you buy at a closing sale

Closing sales can have real deals. They also work differently from a normal purchase, so go in with your eyes open.

• Ask about the terms. Closing-sale purchases are typically final and as-is, with no returns, exchanges or special orders. Make sure you know the rules before you pay.
• Inspect the exact piece you're buying. Check the frame, cushions, drawers and finish. What's on the floor is what goes home with you.
• Measure first. Bring your room, doorway and stairway measurements. If it doesn't fit, you may not be able to send it back.
• Ask how it gets home. Find out whether delivery is offered, what it costs and when it will arrive.
• Compare the final price, not the percentage. A big percentage off depends on the starting price. Look at what you'll actually pay, and compare it with what the same kind of piece costs elsewhere.

Check our price before you buy

Wherever you're shopping, it pays to compare. Before you buy, use our Price Check page or call us at (985) 781-4915 and see how our everyday price compares on the piece you have in mind.
